Unfortunately our Walking the Talk programme, as so much else, was abruptly cut short by the Movement Control Order responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and for now it has been left hanging.
However, as promised ten months ago, you can now catch footage of Walking the Talk sessions, as follows:
The discussion series kicked off with Art That Makes Malaysia led and moderated by Simon Soon at HOM Art Trans in September 2019, with panelists Okui Lala, Nur Hanim Khairuddin, Uncle Rajah and Yee I-Lann.
The second session was a closed-door gathering with art history students and alumni from University of Malaya moderated by Emelia Ong with speakers Tan Sei Hon, Zabas and Beverly Yong, How Would You Write the History of Malaysian Art?
We then co-organised a talk at PORT Ipoh during their Ipoh International Arts Festival, supported by Balai Seni Negara: Why React? Making Art in Troubled Times, moderated by Nur Hanim Khairuddin, introducing presentations by artists Ahmad Fuad Osman, Azizan Paiman and Chang Yoong Chia.
Heading on to Penang, we collaborated with Ruang Kongsi and School of the Arts, Universiti Sains Malaysia for Missing Links: Piecing together a Penang Art Scene, moderated by Sarena Abdullah and Beverly Yong, with speakers Hasnul J. Saidon, Hoo Fan Chon, Ooi Kok Chuen and Tang Hon Yin. Unfortunately, there is no available recording of the lively Kerusi Hangat focus session by Ruang Kongsi, where we heard about some fantastic initiatives by different actors on the local scene, as well as current concerns and ideas about how the scene is developing.
For documentation, thank you so much to MARS, PORT, and Penang Art District and the documentation team they supported to record the session.
Still working on the footage from Kota Kinabalu and Kuching!
